These images show the creation of a piece about Ukrainian culture. I worked on this piece inspired by a photograph I took in 2010 at the heritage place in Kyiv called the Lavra -a revered and historic place of worship!

It all began in my Studio in the southern coastal town of Walpole of Western Australia. A moment of inspiration for the Glory of a country that has had a war forced upon itself!

At this stage I was beginning to know where I was going with this piece!!

This is the finished artwork painted on a clay surface. The Giant ball of Pysanki- a public Art piece at the beautiful majestic enclosure of THE LAVRA in Kyiv. My friend took a video of the spectacle and thought I was crazy – as I embraced it. All the eggs were wooden and painted by children and attached with metal rods onto a metal sphere! My sphere of Eggs was the only part of the piece I glazed with ceramic glaze!! They sparkle for me.
I entered it in the Archibald and Lester Prizes this year. In the artists statement I said: Putin wants to destroy Ukrainian culture, but so long as we keep our culture alive in our minds and in our work he will fail because art is the most creative of all endeavours and will survive!
I did not make the cut. I have had many rejections in my artistic life, but this one hurt the most.
Glory to all people who fight for humanity!
